Character Origins

Chris is the older brother of Terrasave member Claire Redfield. At the age of 17, Chris joined the United States Air Force as a pilot and marksman, and excelled in firearms handling and hand-to-hand combat. Although he was a talented airman, he was constantly in direct conflict with his superiors, unable to properly follow orders without speaking out. Unfortunately, he was unable to settle the many disputes he found himself in, and was eventually discharged without honors. After leaving the Air Force, Chris went to Raccoon City where an old family friend, Barry Burton, suggested he try out for the new S.T.A.R.S. police force. Chris went ahead and applied for S.T.A.R.S. where he was immediately accepted. Along with Barry, Chris was placed in Alpha team with Albert Wesker as Captain. He was both a point man as well as Alpha team's co-pilot and was known for his marksmanship ability. It was here that he also met his future partner; Jill Valentine.

After recovering from their wounds, the remaining S.T.A.R.S. members made a number of attempts to report Umbrella to the authorities, but all attempts failed due to the corporation's bribing of the RPD's chief; Brian Irons. While the public was disturbed by the events, they continued to purchase Umbrella's products. Eventually, Irons had the S.T.A.R.S. team disbanded and replaced with a more standard S.W.A.T.

Chris is currently a well-respected Special Operations Agent (S.O.A.) of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (B.S.A.A.), a group dedicated to stopping the creation and usage of bio-weapons. Jill Valentine was also part of the organization before her sudden disappearance during their supposed final encounter with Wesker.

Background

Zombie Outbreak

"We're B.S.A.A. now. Zombies are so 1996."

Chris visited Max's home in the midst of a zombie outbreak, with fellow B.S.A.A. agents Larry Hayes and Todd Jennings . He had come to Max unaware of the zombie outbreak, and was simply looking for clues regarding the whereabouts of his missing partner, Jill Valentine . Max introduced Chris to Doom, hoping that his roommate could explain where he had sent Jill during Wesker 's second attack on his home.

Chris was shocked to find Wesker had since joined Max's household, and was uneasy about his presence. However, after Wesker left for a job interview (and despite the growing threat of the zombies outside) Chris challenged Max to prove that he knew more about video games.

After Chris learned a bit about his usability in Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Chris discussed other mainstream games with Max and Doom, and revealed that he was nearly unaware of single-player video games. Max and Chris agreed that they both liked the Call of Duty series, and Max showed off some tactical gear that he owned as well as a functional M4 carbine.

Later, Todd and Larry teased Chris about his possible steroid use, which Chris denied. When Doom joined in on the jests, Chris punched him in the arm and shied away from the conversation. However, it wasn't long before Chris was doing pushups in Max's living room with Larry and Todd weighing him down for some extra resistance. When questioned about his workout habits, Chris explained to Max that it was all to impress women.

Chris got a few calls from his sister Claire after reviewing more of his in-game abilities. He ignored the calls, claiming that Claire had attachment issues. Todd teased that he was ignoring a "hot piece of ass", and declared "Rule 34" on Chris. Chris responded by punching Todd in the groin.

When Max was done teaching Chris everything he could about himself in the game, Chris thanked Max for the information and admitted he actually learned quite a bit. Finally, Max and Doom began to explain how Doom reunited them (via his finger-snapping abilities) when he sent Jill into the ending cutscene from Resident Evil 5. Chris became extremely worried, saying that they trapped her in the video game. However, before they could resolve the discussion, the power went out in the apartment (Doom claims that he forgot to pay the electric bill.).

Chris used a chemical flare to illuminate the room, revealing that the group had been surrounded by countless zombies. The B.S.A.A. agents and Max used their firearms to push off their attackers while Doom relied on his magical abilities (specifically the "finger lasers" against the "Mega Man kids" that Deadpool killed in Part 2 of his Assist Me Episode) and armored suit. Larry and Todd were both killed in the ensuing battle, but Chris managed to survive, dragging himself up from behind the couch with Doom and Max after all of the zombies had been killed and the power had come back on.

As Chris mourned over his fallen comrades, he and Max wondered how any of the zombie outbreak could have happened. Just then, Wesker entered the apartment, returning from his job interview, just in time to shoot a surviving zombie in the head, catch the group's accusing stares, and ask "what?"

Trivia

  • Todd and Larry teased Chris about the claims of his usage of steroids. This is a reference to Resident Evil 5's Chris's change of his physical appearance that looks like "he's been on Steroids".
  • It is implied that this version of Chris Redfield is at least mildly homophobic, as he insulted Larry's sexuality. Alternatively, he could simply be making fun of Larry's insecurities.
